International creative residency working with ambisonics

The cultural space Sound Manor 360 invites sound artists, composers, musicians and students from Latvia and abroad to apply for participation in international creative residencies, which will take place from May to September 2026 in Ropaži municipality, Latvia.

Sound Manor 360 is a unique cultural space with the first ambisonic (spatial) sound concert hall in Latvia, created to work with innovative sound practices, listening experiences, and creative experiments in a natural and cultural-historical environment.

What the residence offers
  • Work in a professional ambisonic sound concert hall

  • Accommodation and stay in the residence

  • Technical support and introductory lectures on working with surround sound

  • Ability to work individually or in a group (up to 6 participants)

  • Public concert at the end of the residency with publicity

  • An international and creative environment for sharing experiences

Residency periods (2026)
  • May 11 - 24 – closing concert on May 24 (SKANAM)

  • June 1 - 14 – closing concert on June 13 (PIKNIKS I)

  • June 15 - 28 – closing concert on June 27 (SKANAM)

  • June 29 - July 12 – closing concert on July 11 (PIKNIKS II)

  • July 20 - August 2 – closing concert on August 1 (SKANAM)

  • August 10 - 23 – closing concert on August 22 (PIKNIKS III)

  • August 31 - September 13 – closing concert on September 13 (SKANAM)

Who can apply?
  • Composers, sound artists, sound engineers, musicians, with the possibility of inviting representatives of other professions for a joint residency, integrating cooperation in sound art

  • Students and professional artists

  • Individually or in groups (up to 6 people)

Previous experience working with surround sound is not required.

About financing

Sound Manor 360 does not pay fees to participants of residencies.

 

Artists selected for residencies will receive an official invitation letter, which can be used when applying for additional funding, scholarships or travel expenses from cultural foundations, institutions or other support programs.

About staying in the residence

The residence center is located in a historic building complex in Ropaži district, 40min from Riga, capital city. Residents are accommodated in a building next to the concert hall - each resident has a separate room, while the kitchen and bathrooms are shared with other residence participants. The participants cover the costs of meals during the residence themselves. Please note that two cats live on the territory.
